About Our Intern Program
Rooted in Catholic Jesuit tradition, the Campus Ministry Internship Program at Loyola University Maryland offers students a transformative opportunity to deepen their spiritual lives, develop leadership skills, and engage in the promotion of faith and justice. Guided by the mission to form students through encounters with God, community, and creation, the program seeks to prepare interns to become agents of social change and spiritual transformation.
As part of the program, interns are expected to participate in training and formation sessions that enhance their understanding of Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit values, foster interfaith encounter and dialogue, and cultivate a faith-based commitment to justice. The program also seeks to empower interns to become servant leaders through opportunities such as, leading prayer services, facilitating faith-sharing groups, and promoting interreligious collaboration, all while developing essential professional, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Through this internship, Campus Ministry hopes interns will learn how to integrate their faith and values to discern their sense of calling and purpose.
By the end of the program, interns emerge as loving, inclusive, faith-filled peer ministers, equipped to serve the Loyola community and beyond with a commitment to faith and justice.
The four main goals of the Campus Ministry intern program are:
Interns will learn the context, and central concepts central to the work of Campus Ministry, such as core elements of the Jesuit tradition and Ignatian spirituality, diverse religious traditions and spiritualities & how to participate in religious spaces different from your own, the foundational principles of interfaith collaboration and dialogue & how to respectfully engage in interreligious spaces; and the connection between faith and justice across various religious traditions.
Interns will engage in opportunities to deepen their spiritual lives, such as personal prayer, reflection, and faith-sharing. Through engagement with Ignatian Spirituality and practices from diverse faith traditions, interns will deepen their relationship with God, enhance their understanding of their personal faith journeys and increase their ability to accompany others in theirs as peer ministers on campus.
Through opportunities for leading prayer, interfaith dialogue and encounters, and receiving faith-based justice formation, interns will learn the skills to facilitate diverse faith-sharing experiences, lead spaces of interreligious dialogue and encounter, and engage in faith-based justice advocacy.
Interns will learn essential administrative and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications, effective meeting facilitation, professional email communication, and serving as hospitality ministers. By developing these competencies, the program supports interns in their professional growth and prepares them to succeed in their post-graduate vocations, as well as to serve as compassionate and competent peer ministers in their specific intern roles in Campus Ministry.
