Description

The Cultural & Identity Support Graduate Assistant (GA) is expected to assist in the development and implementation of initiatives that cater to students’ holistic growth and development and serve the mission and vision of the Cultural & Identity Support office within the Thrive Center for Student Success. Graduate Assistants employed by Cultural & Identity Support will develop and strengthen their professional competencies through hands-on experience and active engagement in student support services in one or more of the following areas:

    1. Student learning, success and development
    2. Inclusion and belonging
    3. Teamwork and collaboration
    4. Assessment, evaluation, and research
    5. Professional development and work ethics
Position Cultural & Identity Support (CIS)
Hours and Wages
  • The position is part-time, up to 20 hours/week, starting the 1st week of August and ending the 3rd week of May that totals up to 600 hours between both semesters
  • Compensation is $20/hour
  • The GA will be permitted to procure additional employment with the approval of the supervisor
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ
  • Strong organizational skills & attention to details
  • Willingness to work & mentor undergraduates
General Responsibilities
  • Assist with MAP: A Navigational Tool for Student Success, a Pre-Fall program for first year students. Specific tasks include assisting with the training of MAP Navigators (student leaders), helping to manage program logistics (including excursions, and program facilitators), and supervision of the MAP Senior Navigators. Attendance and participation throughout the 5-day program is mandatory.
  • Coordinate and evaluate fall and spring leadership retreats through pre-and post-surveys and other collection measures for the executive boards of the Thrive Center student organizations.
  • Oversee student leader professional development, networking and training opportunities for the Thrive Center student organization leaders. Assess and evaluate trainings, networking opportunities, and professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison to multiple designated student organizations, serving as the first point of contact for student organizations, maintaining oversight of the program planning checklist, helping to coordinate campus-wide cultural heritage celebrations, maintaining regular attendance at executive board and general body member meetings, and maintaining regular communication to address the needs and concerns of those organizations.
  • Alongside other Graduate Assistants, organize, plan, and execute Academic & Career Enrichment (ACE) Workshops, managing both in-person offerings on a bi-monthly basis, as well as virtual offerings (creating and posting content on the YouTube Channel and creating social media digital content).
  • Assist with student success coaching efforts of CIS, including proactive outreach at midsemester to CIS student leaders with two or more academic deficiencies.
  • Attend weekly Cultural & Identity Support staff meetings and supervision meetings.
  • Provide coverage and assist with designated Thrive Center sponsored events (such as cultural/heritage celebrations, BSA Fashion Show, Open Houses, Family Weekend, etc.) that take place both in the evening and on weekends.
  • Establish rapport and positive working relationships with students by maintaining visibility in the Thrive Center office and Center for Intercultural Engagement (CIE) during designated office hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the promotion of Jesuit values and ideals, such as Cura Personalis and an appreciation for the respect and dignity of the whole person.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of inclusivity, and a willingness to support students through an intersectional framework.
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with their supervisor.
  • Available to support evening/night and weekend activities.
  • Maintain office hours & visibility in the CIE.
  • Serve as a positive role model and advocate for CIS students.
